Buying property in Bulgaria A non-Bulgarian citizen may easily acquire property in Bulgaria because strict rules are laid down and the procedures in Bulgaria as a whole are relatively fast and simple. A foreigner may buy Bulgarian property either personally or through a local entity. Property in Bulgaria can be easily bought by foreigners if they do not buy the actual land. Distribution of profits is guaranteed by the law but only after paying all taxes. The only law’s restriction for owning property is that foreigners should not buy land unless they have or participate in a Bulgarian company. Buying a property with land still requires that the investment be made through a local entity. A foreigner may register a limited liability company, establish a joint venture with a Bulgarian company or chose any other form of participation in a Bulgaria-registered business entity. The above restriction will be abolished after Bulgaria’s EU accession in January 2007. Bulgarian Properties Group will register your company in the commercial register of the relevant district court, open a bank account for you and provide the annual book keeping of your company.
